The Blue Mountain Recreation Commission is pleased to present “Science Explorers” - an after school science program designed for students in grades 1 through 5 with an opportunity to become engaged in the wonders of science. Our after-school programs at Blue Mountain Elementary East and Blue Mountain Elementary West make science cool and exciting through our interactive, hands-on format.

Students who register for this program must participate in the program held at their elementary school. Participants must report to the assigned program location following dismissal. They will remain with the instructor during the duration of the class and will travel to the lobby for pick up where all children MUST be signed out. Parents please make sure you are on time to pick your child up at the conclusion of the class (approximately 4:20 p.m.).

This years clubs include:

Pop Bang Fizz (Beginning week of 12/2)

A pinch of this, a dash of that, some wild reactions are where it’s at! Mix up a frozen ice cream treat and a fizzy bath popper to clean your feet. You won’t believe what our mixing fun can teach some science before it’s done. With a pop or a bang or even some fizz, you have just become a chemistry whiz!

Science Escape Room (Beginning week of 2/24)
     
You’ve traveled into the lab of Professor Plasma and realize he’s set traps to keep you
from leaving. Escaping won’t be easy, as the professor was diabolical and left one trap
after another. To succeed, you’ll have to be one step ahead. Use your scientific
knowledge to solve puzzles and complete experiments in order to uncover clues that
will lead you to finding your way out. Join us in this thrilling adventure to see if you can
outsmart the mad professor!

Sciencepalooza (Beginning week of 4/28)

Prepare yourself for more science, more fun and more eye-popping experiments!  Experience the many areas of science with this sampling of various club themes.  Discover the wonder of bubbles by making a Bubblerium, write secret messages on Papyrus paper that you created, simulate a real avalanche and make your own musical instrument to play at home.

     
SPACE IS LIMITED - Only 22 students will be accepted per class! Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

**We are always looking for parent volunteers to work with the Science Explorer Instructors during our sessions!! Students enrolled with a parent volunteer will have program fees waived.  Please reach out to us for information about this opportunity!**
